How much money do you need to show for Mexican residency?
The consulate wants to see that you can support yourself: a monthly income or a savings balance above a threshold, backed by months of bank statements. Pick your case and see the figure.
Your threshold
MXN 79,771per month
≈ USD 4,611 approx.
Approximate, using Banxico’s exchange rate of September 22, 2026. The peso amount is the one that counts.
Statements for the last 6 months.
Your statements need to show at least this much coming in every month, for each of those months.
- General rule: 680 days of the UMA, Mexico’s daily unit of measure.
Rates and multipliers last verified September 22, 2026. Consulates can apply their own criteria — confirm with yours.
How the requirement works
It is counted in days, not dollars
The threshold is not a round number in dollars. It is a number of days of the UMA, a daily value Mexico updates every February, so it moves whenever the UMA does, and it differs by residency type and by what you show: income or savings.
Income is monthly, savings is a balance
For income, the consulate looks for the amount arriving every month across the months it reviews. For savings, it looks at the balance you held across those months. A deposit made last week doesn’t lift an average built over months.
Consulates apply their own criteria
Some consulates publish their own figures, some convert at their own rate, and some are stricter than others. Confirm the amount with yours before you book.
